Lefens, recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Award for Painting, received his BFA from VCU and did graduate work at Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. He has shown numerous times in Manhattan galleries including Brooke Alexander. He has been featured in Art News, the New York Times, PBS and People Magazine. The book he wrote: ‘Flying Colors’ was named Today’s Best Nonfiction by Reader’s Digest. His long-term mentors include Clement Greenberg and Roy Lichtenstein. Trustees of the ground-breaking nonprofit Lefens created include Willem Dafoe, Neil Young, and John McPhee.
